A CELEBRATED ARTIST / HEADY, INTELLIGENT SONGS
L’autre bout du monde, Pays sauvage, Sister; these are familiar songs that we have all heard somewhere before, on the radio, while surfing the internet, on television .… Not exactly hit songs, but great songwriting, heady and intelligent.
A NEW TAKE / PIANO AND CELLO
In 2014 Emily Loizeau goes back to her roots, to reinterpret the tracks of her first three albums with new pared-down but generous versions. These comprise an album (Revisited – Piano Cello Sessions), and a tour, both orchestrated in the same simple way: the singer at her piano accompanied by her ever-faithful cellist, Olivier Koundouno.
INDEFINABLE SONGS / CHAMBER MUSIC AT FONTEVRAUD
This unusual duo, so adept at a music that defies categorisation (French chanson?, folk?) and borders (sung sometimes in French, sometimes in English), just had to come to Fontevraud. Madamelune, who have organised this concert as part of the Rendez-vous de la lune, were absolutely right: there is no doubt that the intimate, acoustic versions of Emily Loizeau’s songs, so similar in their way to chamber music, will have a particular resonance inside the walls of the Royal Abbey.
