Follow the road of animation
ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE, MASTERCLASSES… / FONTEVRAUD ANIMATED!
Via its artists’ residencies, Fontevraud Royal Abbey has developed a specialism in animated film. Young filmmakers of all nationalities come here to write their films. Some are highly successful, such as Luminaris by Juan Pablo Zaramella (winner of over 200 awards!). In 2007, Takahata Isao, celebrated Japanese filmmaker and co-founder of Studio Ghibli with Miyazaki, author of Grave of the Fireflies and the more recent The Tale of Princess Kaguya, gave a masterclass at the Royal Abbey.
‘SUIVEZ LA ROUTE DE L’ANIMATION’ / FONTEVRAUD’S VERY OWN FESTIVAL
As a respected place for animated film, Fontevraud Royal Abbey felt it was important to share this adventure with a wider public. So last year the ‘Suivez la route de l’animation!’ festival was established. It is an opportunity to meet filmmakers and see their films, to discover little known jewels of animated cinema and to come to preview-screenings (Loulou, l’incroyable secret de Grégoire Solotareff, in 2013).
THE SECOND EDITION / FUTURE TALENTS
The festival’s second edition includes filmmakers from Canada, Switzerland, China and elsewhere. Their films will be screened in cinemas and libraries in various towns around the Loire, Centre and Poitou-Charentes regions, all partners in the festival. Perhaps the next Tim Burton will be among these young talents?
