A HOTEL THAT CHOSES TO BE ENVIRONMENTALLY SUSTAINABLE
Boasting all the attributes of a four-star establishment (the quality of service, the level of comfort in the bedrooms…), Fontevraud L’Hôtel is also exemplary in terms of sustainable development. This has enabled it to achieve ISO 26000 accreditation. At the heart of the hotel, everything has been conceived to ally our guest’s well-being with a respect for the environment.
CONTROL AND COMFORT / GREEN ENERGY
The hotel’s heating and hot water are entirely provided by our wood-chip burning stove, allowing us to do without fossil fuels. Maximum insulation is achieved by double-glazing throughout and thanks to the original thick stone walls of the Saint-Lazare priory. These walls keep our energy use low and allow us to avoid needing an air-conditioning system. Comfort remains a priority, but is linked to a genuine commitment to the environment.
MANAGED IMPACT / LOCAL SUPPLIERS
Our organic waste is transformed into compost for our 13 hectares of parkland, where we are particularly keen to encourage bio-diversity. Local skills and suppliers – and therefore short supply chains – are prioritised for the hotel as they are for the rest of the Royal Abbey. Local handmade soap ‘Made in Fontevraud’ is used in the hotel bathrooms. Local Saumur sparkling wine is proudly served at the iBar. At breakfast, our guests can sample honey made only a few metres from their breakfast table. Yes, the Royal Abbey not only has its own beehives, but its own water too, from a natural spring, which is served in all our restaurants.
