MUSIC REIGNS / IN ALL ITS DIVERSITY
Of all the live performances at Fontevraud, music is perhaps the most important, taking place all year round in all its rich diversity. We have no rules defining our programme of concerts except that of quality. The acoustic spaces at the Abbey are particularly well suited to classical music, be that chamber music (Sonia Wieder & Bruno Fontaine…) or orchestral (ONPL…). It also suits folk music (Emily Loizeau, Dick Annegarn…) as well as contemporary music. Rodolphe Burger from rock group Kat Onoma and rapper Abd Al Malik were just as successful at packing out Fontevraud as many of our baroque music ensembles!
FILM, STREET THEATRE, READINGS… / ALL THE ARTS
From the screening of a film made at Fontevraud in 1944, to the selection of animated films for the ‘Suivez la route de l’animation!’ festival, or the end of year film screening accompanied by live music for parents and children, cinema in all its forms comes to Fontevraud. The same applies to street theatre, as part of ‘Dimanches d’été à Fontevraud’, when the best regional companies come to the Abbey on Sundays throughout the summer. And books are also important, with book readings (’À la rencontre de Grégoire Solotareff’) and literary events (‘La cité idéale : À livre ouvert’…) taking place here too.
