The Fontevraud Museum of Modern Art and Fontevraud L’Ermitage are accessible to people with reduced mobility.

The Royal Abbey of Fontevraud is 60% accessible to wheelchair users.

On the self-guided or guided tour, some ramps are narrow, between 80cm and 1m wide, allowing access to the church, cloister, refectory and Romanesque kitchens. Some accessible passages are paved.

For reasons of comfort and safety, blind and partially-sighted visitors and wheelchair users are advised to be accompanied. Guide dogs are permitted.

Public in the social field

In order to welcome the public in all its diversity, the Royal Abbey and the Museum of Modern Art at Fontevraud are committed to working with volunteers, professionals, educators, activity leaders, trainers and social and medico-social workers in the area, working on behalf of :

  • Local residents (community centres, CCAS, social centres)
  • Sick people (hospitals, day centres)
  • Isolated elderly people
  • French language learners
  • People suffering from illiteracy
  • People in precarious situations and with housing problems
  • People returning to work
  • People under court supervision

Each quarter, themed tours are offered to local social and medico-social organisations and associations.

The Royal Abbey and the Museum of Modern Art at Fontevraud are also participating in the national ‘It’s my heritage’ scheme, which aims to encourage people who are farthest from cultural events to take ownership of their heritage.

Our services

Tours and workshops are led by a cultural mediator. They are adapted to the needs of visitors, and prepared if necessary with accompanying adults.

Reservations must be made at least two weeks before the date of the visit or workshop.
